Prefecture of French Guiana
The French presence in Guiana dates back to the early seventeenth century. The law of 19 March 1946 came to spend this long membership to the Republic by giving the status of Guiana DOM (Overseas territories): all laws of the Republic are therefore intended to be applied, as in other french departments. Guyana has 22 municipalities, including Cayenne with the Prefecture and Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, where the sub-prefecture.
